 For the past 6 years, I have been on a journey involving, not only understanding Sensory Processing Disorder, but also finding comprehensive treatment for my daughter. It has been a very frustrating process because the medical, psychological and educational communities simply do not understand and recognize the disorder and how it affects children in many ways. Over the years, I have spent thousands of dollars in Occupational Therapy (OT) and counseling services that insurance simply would not cover. While the OT services were hitting the mark, they were provided at facilities that were somewhat lacking in an individualized approach and simply did not comprehensively cover the learning deficits that my child was having. Well-intentioned professionals who, unfortunately, lacked an understanding of the disorder provided counseling services. Teachers and staff at my daughter's schools have been compassionate, but similarly lacking in understanding the learning deficits that she has because of her disability. My daughter went from a bubbly, happy-go -lucky "sunshine girl" to a child suffering from low self- esteem, anxiety and depression. Needless to say, I was beginning to lose hope in my quest to help my daughter shine. Then, I found Brainasium, the only comprehensive treatment facility that I have seen.
